The Paul Riba Private Art Collection Private Showing Only. (Contact Doug Holladay for Appointment)
Over 800 signed pieces of work. 50 + oils, 90 watercolors with the remaining
consisting of drawings, studies and low numbered prints.
Nell Riba Hutt, wife of Paul Riba, is offering the entire private
collection of Riba’s artwork and related materials to be sold.
Offered will be Riba’s works from as early as 1924, when Paul
Riba was 12 years old, to the very last painting before his death in
1977. The Riba collection has remained in his Palm Beach home studio, where he
worked from 1968-1977, untouched the past 28
years and most if it never viewed outside the immediate family.
Also discovered in this studio and included in this collection were personal
files of Riba’s writings and correspondence, photographs,
calendars, prints and posters. The Smithsonian remains the only institution that
has acquired some of his personal papers.
As agent for Nell Riba Hutt, I assure you this is a very
unique collection. Personal work from his years in Cleveland, Ohio and work
from his Florida home studio and adjoining storage room, where it has remained,
untouched, throughout the years.
Evidently, Mr. Riba saved every scrap and draft for his work, including
annotations. Most of the drawings look to be a procession of
studies and thoughts incorporated into his final paintings. The development of
his work can be traced through these sketches. Also
included in this collection is a large quantity of drawings that were pencil
signed by Paul Riba at the insistence of his wife and son, Brian Riba.
